Best Restaurant – What’s great about the Wellswood area is that it’s centrally located in Tampa – close to downtown, Ybor City, SoHo and Carollwood. Currently we tend to favor Zudar’s Deli on Platt St. and Margaritas Mexican Restaurant on Davis Island.
Best Bar/Tavern – Mad Dogs on South MacDill for the best Hamburgers in town.
Best Hangout – We tend to favor a good bookstore and hanging out in our Airstream in a nearby state park.
Best Secret Gem – West Tampa! Its really on the move with unique galleries, awesome restaurants and boutique stores.
Best Place to Stay – We prefer our Airstream for any overnight trips. It’s out 5-star hotel on wheels.
Favorite Neighborhood Spot – Cappy’s Pizza in Seminole Heights.
What drew you to Wellswood and how long have you lived there?
We’ve lived in Wellswood for 30 years now – five years as a renter. We loved the central location of the neighborhood so much that we looked and patiently waited for something to come available that we could afford.
What is a typical weekend like for you?
Our weekends are filled with home improvements, gardening, working on our artwork and/or traveling to a state park on a photo safari in our Airstream.
What makes your favorite neighborhood spot your favorite?
What’s special about Wellswood is the size of the lots. We love our backyard and having designed it for our enjoyment. We have our Airstream office, Rebecca’s painting studio, nice deck, hot tub and two wonderful oak trees. It’s our paradise.
What are some non-profits you support and what would you like people to know about them?
For many years, we’ve supported the American Heart Association through Matt’s connection with WFLA. Then two years ago, Matt had his aortic valve replaced with a mechanical one. This will be out life-long charity we support for heart wellness and education. It’s a fantastic organization with caring people dedicated to a heart-healty life.
For us it’s about the people connected to the organization – are they invested and committed to really making a change. The three organization we try to support have fantastic people working for them – American Heart Association, LifePath Hospice and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
What would you like someone moving to your neighborhood to know?
Wellswood is a changing, evolving neighborhood that’s now attracting younger families. We see these younger families buying homes and/or property either fixing them up or building new homes. It’s changing and getting better with each passing year.
